Koloa Plantation Days kicks off ten days of events celebrating our plantation roots through the eyes of our keiki on Friday.

For the first time ever, Koloa Plantation Days is kicking off their 10-day festival with a Paniolo BBQ and Bull Riding Showdown presented by Kalapaki Joe’s and CJM Stables in Poipu. This signature event invites visitors, cowboys and locals down to an amazing night of family fun, great food, beer garden and an exciting bull riding competition.

Known as the toughest sport on dirt, the bull-riding showdown will be the first of this magnitude on the island of Kauai. Bull riders and hand picked bulls are coming from around the state of Hawaii to compete for the $2,000 prize purse provided by Kalapaki Joe’s. Get ready for an awesome display of man verses animal as each rider tries to stay on the bull for the eternal 8 seconds.

Doors open at 4:00 pm with a $5 fee to enter. Children 8 and under are free. In addition to the bull-riding showdown that begins at 6 pm, double mugging and American West Barrel Racing will be featured in the CJM Arena.

The Paniolo BBQ will be prepared by Kalapaki Joe’s executive chef Andy Althouse, KJ Albarado & crew and includes a Hawaiian kalua pig plate with lomi lomi salmon, steamed rice and mac salad, pulled pork sliders or grilled huli huli chicken sliders with coleslaw, and a huli huli chicken thigh plate to name a few. Kona Brewing and Bud Light will sponsor the beer garden and beverage area. Additionally, live local music and kids activities like face painting, story telling and s’mores will be scheduled.

This event kicks off the 13th Annual Koloa Plantation Days Rodeo that begins at 11am on Sunday, July 22nd at CJM Country Stables. Featured events include po’o wai u, team roping, double mugging, steer riding, barrel racing and much more.

This is the 27th annual Koloa Plantation Days. Koloa was the location of the first commerical sugar mill in the state of Hawaii, founded in 1835. The ten day celebration includes events featuring plantation history, local foods, the flora and fauna of Koloa, and activities around Poipu.
